ROSS POLWORTH

Secretary, North Area Committee

Ross Polworth became the Secretary of the North Area Committee in June 2025.

Ross started his police career with Northern Constabulary in 2004 where he spent over ten years in response/community roles. He would move on to roles as a Prevention and Intervention Officer and a Counter Terrorism Liaison Officer. In 2020, Ross was elected to the position of Vice Chair of the North Area Committee before standing down to take up a role as a Detective Constable with counter terrorism intelligence in 2022. He returned to the Scottish Police Federation in December 2023 as a Constable Representative for N Division. During Ross’s career he has vast experience in partnership working and has successfully obtained Diploma’s for Crime Reduction & Community Safety, Police Service Leadership & Management and a NEBOSH Health & Safety General Certificate”

Allen Shaw

Chair, North Area Committee

Allen Shaw became Chair in July 2022. He has over 20 years policing experience, predominantly as a detective within Proactive, Reactive and PPU CID roles and as a front line officer in both the legacy Grampian Police are and within Police Scotland, serving as SIO in a number of high profile cases.

Allen become chair of the North Area Committee in July 2022 having previously been an Inspectors’ representative and vice chair of the same committee prior to this.  Allen is currently a director for the Police Treatment Centres and The Police Children’s Charity.

He currently has the Portfolio for Conduct.

Andy Sawers

Deputy Secretary, North Area Committee

Andy Sawers became Deputy Secretary of the North Area Committee in July 2022.

He has served on that Committee as a Sergeant rep since 2019 and held the position of Chair of the Sergeants Committee until his recent successful election.

Andy has 25 years experience in various operational and departmental roles with Grampian Police and Police Scotland, in both the City and Shire.  He has years of experience in Public Order, Firearms and several years working within Crime Reduction, delivering presentations to commercial businesses and the off shore industry.

He currently has the Portfolio for People and Equality.

Yvonne Sloan

Vice Chair, North Area Committee

Yvonne Sloan became the Vice Chair of the North Area Committee in July 2022. 

She joined Northern Constabulary as a Special Constable in 1995 and  as a Constable in 2004.

She’s worked in several areas of policing in rural and city areas, including response policing, as a detective within Child Protection, served as a Staff Officer for the Senior Command Team, as a PF liaison officer and has worked on several national projects.  She was elected as the Constables representative for N Division in 2020 and held the position of Secretary for the Constables Committee in the North.

She is involved with the Scottish Police Benevolent Fund as a trustee and the North Area Secretary and is trained in Conduct and Equality.

She currently has the Portfolio for Health and Safety.
