A fundraising page has been established in memory of fallen Thames Valley Police officer PC Andrew Harper.

The official page – launched and administered by staff association Thames Valley Police Federation – will provide all proceeds to the family of PC Harper, who was tragically killed on duty on the A4 Bath Road in the Berkshire village of Sulhamstead on Thursday night (15 August).

The family will be decide what to do with the funds raised.

Andy Fiddler, from Thames Valley Police Federation, said: “Police officers all over Thames Valley and the rest of the UK go to work each and every day to do their duty. We are courageous, caring and compassionate. We confront danger on a daily basis. We know there is a risk when we put on the uniform but we do so as we are proud to protect the public.

“Sadly on very rare and horrendous occasions a colleague makes the ultimate sacrifice. We will ensure that heroism is never forgotten. All our thoughts remain with Andrew’s wife, family, friends and close colleagues.

“The family of PC Harper will decide how money raised through the page is used.”

The thoughts of the Scottish Police Federation and the officers we represent are with PC Harper’s family, friends and close colleagues.Death of our colleague PC Andrew Harper has been confirmed by Thames Valley Police.

This is totally devastating news. All our thoughts - and the thoughts of the entire police family across the UK - are with the family, friends and close colleagues of PC Harper who died last night.

Police officers go to work each and every day to do their duty. We are courageous, caring and compassionate. We confront danger on a daily basis. We know there is a risk when we put on the uniform but we do so as we are proud to protect the public.

Sadly on very rare and horrendous occasions a colleague makes the ultimate sacrifice. We will ensure that heroism is never forgotten.

We are offering our full support to the officer’s family and colleagues at this simply awful time.

An Edinburgh man has appeared in court after a police officer was hit by a car while attempting to stop it driving through an Edinburgh street.

The male officer in his 50s was hit at about 03:20 on Saturday in the Cowgate, which is closed to vehicles between 10:00 and 05:00 for safety reasons.

Elliot Lees, 21, was charged with assaulting a police officer, dangerous driving and abusive behaviour.

He was also charged with drugs possession at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

He made no plea and was granted bail on Monday.

He is due to make a second appearance at a later date.

The officer sustained minor injuries and was treated by paramedics.
